Raising Up the Next Generation: Inside the Maratane Children’s Bible School

It was a day filled with singing, dancing, and pure joy. In July, I had the privilege of sitting in the front row as twelve children—ages 10 to 12—became the very first graduating class of the Maratane Children’s Bible School.

Their faces shone with pride as they recited Scripture and received their own Bible in Swahili. Parents beamed. Teachers celebrated. It felt like a glimpse into the very heart of God.

Enrollment at the Bible school has grown from 52 students to 73, as children gather three days each week for two hours of teaching, singing, and Scripture memorization. Pastor Numbe, the school’s director, shared one of his favorite verses: “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it.” (Proverbs 22:6)

Feeding Hearts—and Hungry Stomachs

The children’s hunger for God’s Word is matched only by their physical hunger. That’s why WayFindersAfrica has partnered with Pastor Numbe and his team to provide a hot meal every Saturday for every student.

“The meal is more than just food,” says Pastor Assani, one of the teachers. “It is an encouragement to parents.”

These meals strengthen families, support children’s learning, and express the love of Christ in practical, meaningful ways.
