PROJECTS

Projects are accomplished in partnership with a team in Mozambique and the US.

IN MOZAMBIQUE

The Community Health Evangelism (CHE) team, known by its local acronym as EAJ is elected by the Maratane community. This team then decides in which priority to solve problems, finds answers, and then trains and motivates volunteers to bring these practical solutions to their neighbors.

IN THE US

Board members work to support the EAJ team and the Maratane community thru various resources. This includes regular visits to teach, equip and fellowship.

WELLS

While the rainy season provides enough water for gardens, drinking and cleaning, the hand dug wells dry up during the 8-month dry season. WayFindersAfrica installed 4 bore-hole wells providing a long term water solution.

MARATANE CLINIC

The Maratane clinic struggles to provide healthcare for the refugees. In March of 2020, the clinic received from WayFindersAfrica new equipment to sterilize medical instruments. This replaces the old method of boiling the instruments in water over an open fire.

GARDENS

WayFindersAfrica supports local agronomists who help families start gardens. The help prepare the soil, provide seedlings and build fences to keep out goats. These gardens reduce hunger and dependence on outside food sources.

BLANKETS

Widows and abandonded women make up 80% of camp households. WayFindersAfrica provides blankets for them to stay warm during the winter months.

SANITATION/HYGIENE

Community Health Evangelism techniques are bringing healing and hope to the Maratane Refugee Camp and nearby Nampula. Residents are being taught how to create hand-washing stations, SODIS (solar disinfection) for purifying drinking water, and drying racks to sanitize dishes and utensils.

BIBLES & EYEGLASSES

Swahili-speaking refugees are particularly appreciative of donations of new Swahili language Bibles. Many have been without a Bible in their native language for years! New reading glasses enable them to read God's Word.
